Pokhara Tourism Council submits preliminary report on damage to Pokhara tourism sector

POKHARA, October 10:The Pokhara Tourism Council has published a preliminary report on the damages suffered by Pokhara’s tourism sector during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9.

A team led by Pokhara Tourism Council chairman Taranath Pahari has submitted a preliminary report to Mitralal Basyal, the Tourism Minister of Gandaki Province on the tourism sector’s damage caused by the recent Gen-Z movement.

According to the study, more than ten hotels and commercial company in Pokhara have sustained damage of over Rs 2.50 billion.

The council said that additional hotels,  stores, banks, and tourists’ personal goods had also been damaged.

The council warned that the incident, which occurred at the start of the tourism season, will have adverse long-term effects and requested the government to provide immediate relief, such as ‘life-saving loans’, to save the entrepreneurs. It has also demanded that the infrastructure budget be reduced while investments in tourism promotion be increased.
